Formula 2010: Manufacturing Underway
The entire team has been hard at work since the end of the fall semester, including working through Christmas break with cold blizzards trying to slow progress. The primary goal at this point is to finish all manufacturing to obtain a rolling chassis. Although much of the components are now complete, many parts are still in the manufacturing phase.
Many primary components are inches away from completion, while others are completed entirely. The following is a list of our current progress:
- Wheel centers are completed, and investigation is currently underway for the finishing process
- Stubshafts are in their final machining phase
- Centerlock nuts are completed, and look downright awesome
- Uprights have finished the deposition process - they are currently being heat treated, soon to return for final machining
- Suspension is very close to complete - multiple A-arms have been made, and other primary components are awaiting the arrival of our shocks/springs
- The engine is awaiting finishing touches for its dyno stand, where major tuning will occur on our engine
- The frame is near complete, awaiting some final tabs and final welding
- Brake hats have been completed and brake rotors will be manufactured soon
There is a lot more, but the major components were discussed above. The car is looking very promising! In case there is any confusion, the reason pictures are not very informative is to show that we are making headway without disclosing our designs. This year's car has many new and original designs - we don't want any cats out of any bags before Formula SAE West this summer in Fontana!
Keep checking back for further updates. Who knows, maybe we will disclose an un-obstructed view...We shall see...
If you're having trouble identifying what part is which - then we have succeeded in not showing you too much! Of course, as always, if you have questions about our progress, check out our blog or contact us.
